 Here is a description of MAKE's Winter 2026 Training Program.

  • 185 required participant program hours 

  • 4-days a week: one training day, three work experience days

  • ​Wednesday-Saturday MORNING schedule 

  • Three-Year Food Handlers' Card and strong food safety understanding

  • 4 weeks of work experience at MAKE Farm working as a team to grow vegetables and provide food tasting demonstrations to school tours and farm visitors

  • 4 weeks working in the MAKE Cafe kitchen preparing food orders, preparing vegetables for cooking, interacting with customers delivering food orders and bussing tables and dishwashing 

  • 4 weeks of working as a MAKE Cafe barista and cashier

  • Temporary, part-time employment at City of San Diego minimum wage 

Are you eligible?

 

  • English language learner (Level 3 High Beginner and up)

  • Comfortable outdoors on the farm in the sun during hot/cold weather

  • Comfortable working in the kitchen and with customers in MAKE Cafe 

  • Available every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the whole 12-week duration of the training program

  • Receive EBT/SNAP/CalFresh benefits but without TANF/cash assistance benefits

  • Must be able to stand for long hours (3-4 hours) and lift 20 pounds 

  • Adults ages 18 years and older 
  • Valid U.S. work authorization
