 Here is a description of MAKE's Training Program.

  • 185-hours in program 

  • 4-days a week: mandatory Wednesday training day, three work experience days

  • ​Wednesday-Saturday MORNING schedule 

  • 4 weeks at MAKE Farm working as a team to harvest vegetables and talk to customers and visitors

  • 4 weeks in the MAKE kitchen 
  • 4 weeks as MAKE Cafe barista, cashier and busser/runner

  • Three-Year Food Handlers' Card 

  • Temporary, part-time employment at City of San Diego minimum wage 

Are you eligible?

 

  • English language learner (Level 3 High Beginner and up)

  • Comfortable outdoors on the farm in the sun during hot/cold weather

  • Comfortable working in the kitchen and with customers in MAKE Cafe 

  • Available every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the whole 12-week duration of the training program - participants can only miss 12 hours

  • Must be able to stand for long hours (3-4 hours) and lift 20 pounds 

  • Low-income household
  • Country of origin outside of the U.S.
  • Adults ages 18 years and older 
  • Valid U.S. work authorization 

​MAKE prioritizes applicants receiving EBT/SNAP/CalFresh benefits but without TANF/cash assistance benefits.
