Do you want to be a Trainee with MAKE Projects?
We are currently open to receiving applications to our Winter 2026 Training Program. The January 2026 cohort will begin January 7, 2026. The Winter 2026 Program will include:

185 required participant program hours

4-days a week: one training day, three work experience days

Wednesday-Saturday MORNING schedule

Three-Year Food Handlers' Card and strong food safety understanding
-
4 weeks of work experience at MAKE Farm working as a team to grow vegetables and provide food tasting demonstrations to school tours and farm visitors
-
4 weeks working in the MAKE Cafe kitchen preparing food orders, preparing vegetables for cooking, interacting with customers delivering food orders and bussing tables and dishwashing
-
4 weeks of working as a MAKE Cafe barista and cashier

Temporary, part-time employment at City of San Diego minimum wage
Program Eligibility
-
English language learner (Level 3 High Beginner and up)

Comfortable outdoors on the farm in the sun during hot/cold weather

Comfortable working in the kitchen and with customers in MAKE Cafe

Available every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the whole 12-week duration of the training program

Receive EBT/SNAP/CalFresh benefits but without TANF/cash assistance benefits

Must be able to stand for long hours (3-4 hours) and lift 20 pounds
- Adults ages 18 years and older
- Valid U.S. work authorization
