Afrobeat is a West African music genre, fusing influences from Nigerian (such as Igbo and Yoruba) and Ghanaian (such as highlife) music with American funk, jazz, and soul influences. Let's hear it for Afrobeat San Diego! They'll be bringing the sounds and grooves with both an Afrobeat DJ and dance instructor giving mini Afrodance classes throughout the evening. Supper Club String Band will be holding it down in the garden with their old timey music. Sway with our plants as you listen to their acoustic joy on fiddle, banjo and guitar. We are overjoyed for world-renowned artist Eva Struble to be leading a site-specific art installation involving weaving and fencing in our garden!
Following Eva's original design and inspired by collaborative art projects with Karen Organization San Diego and United Women of East Africa, all event guests will be invited to help install this beautiful new woven piece in our MAKE Cafe garden.
MAKE will be offering a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options to attendees. Bivouac Ciderworks has graciously donated their delicious cider for our event, and we will be offering some exciting new farm-inspired mixed drinks!
Last but not least, watch our dining room transform into a Global Art Village and Marketplace. Connect with local artists and microenterprise vendors from all over the world.
